Oxford University Programs
Update September 2020: there are only 33 spots on the UA@Oxford 2020 trip. Applications will be considered in the order they are received, and priority will be given to students in good university standing who express strong interest and apply early. What is UA@Oxford?Four decades ago, the English and History Departments together created one of the first summer study abroad programs at the University of Alabama, an intensive summer session at a very old and very grand academic institution: the University of Oxford. Today, that program continues as 'UA@Oxford,' joining faculty and students from English, History, and Honors to form an altogether special study abroad experience.Currently, the stunning Worcester College houses the program; built during the middle ages, and developed into a collegiate institution while the United States was still in its infancy, Worcester is truly a remarkable place to live and study for a summer. Its on campus orchard, lake, and cricket pitch are exceptions even by Oxford standards, and add to the otherwise neoclassical design of the college a lovely pastoral touch.Students who enroll in UA@Oxford also gain access to the University's library system, including the Bodleian Library and Radcliffe Camera Library (pictured above), as well as to scores of Faculty libraries and other University Buildings. And the city itself is one of the West's most prosperous, vibrant, and cosmopolitan. Indeed, in all its facets Oxford offers an unparalleled opportunity for summer study, intellectual engagement, and personal reflection. The UA@Oxford program offers a variety of courses in English and History at the 200, 300, and 400 levels, with most classes available at both the Honors and non-Honors levels.
Georgetown College Honors Programs
A mixture of UA and Oxford faculty teach UA@Oxford courses, and course sizes are generally small (between 12–14 students). One highlight is the one-of-a-kind UH210 course which details the rich cultural, artistic, and literary history of Oxford itself.
